By synchronising this event with Singapore Design Week 2024, the Embassy of Italy,\u00a0with the support of the Italian Trade Agency, aims to create a vibrant platform\u00a0that connects <span class=\"xn-location\">Italy&#8217;s<\/span> design excellence with <span class=\"xn-location\">Singapore&#8217;s<\/span> dynamic design scene.<\/p>\n<p>Singapore Design Week is a renowned celebration of global design innovation, and the Embassy is dedicated to infusing the festivities with Italian flair, fostering a deeper appreciation for Italian design among the local audience, with whom <span class=\"xn-location\">Italy<\/span> shares a mutual passion for creativity and excellence. The activities are designed to spark discussions on design trends and creative processes, enriching the overall experience of Singapore Design Week.<\/p>\n<p>Lecture by Architect <span class=\"xn-person\">Michele De Lucchi<\/span>: The Equation In Collaboration with DesignZ at SUTD<\/p>\n<p>An inspirational reflection that evolves from the Earth Stations research project, Architect Michele will discuss the definition of a new attitude and a new philosophy of intervention on nature, that has taken shape into an &#8220;equation&#8221;.\u00a0\u00a0 In this lecture, Architect Michele will delve into the roles and responsibilities of architects and designers:\u00a0 Who are we designers? What can we answer when asked to build something new?\u00a0 Why should we take up more space of the little left on the planet?<\/p>\n<p>He analyses the paradigm of the relationship between the need to work on environmental installations and the human factor of change and the fine balance between man and nature, and then the question of the measure of the responsibility and social role of the architect in undertaking meaningful projects.<\/p>\n<p>The Equation\u00a0will be held on <span class=\"xn-chron\">30 September 2024<\/span> from <span class=\"xn-chron\">5.30pm to 7.00pm<\/span> at LT5, <span class=\"xn-org\">Singapore University<\/span> of Technology and Design (SUTD).<\/p>\n<p>Fireside Chat with Architect <span class=\"xn-person\">Michel De Lucchi<\/span> with Singapore Furniture Industries Council (SFIC) at NAFA<\/p>\n<p>Architect <span class=\"xn-person\">Michele De Lucchi<\/span> will present his second talk on\u00a0Designing Furniture Today: How Young Designers Can Stand Out and How Brands Can Maximise Outcomes.\u00a0\u00a0 Jointly organised with SFIC, the talk will be styled as a fireside chat. Architect Michele hopes to have a more casual and candid discussion with the furniture industry players and students of the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA). De Lucchi has designed lamps and furniture for well-known Italian and European companies, such as Artemide, Olivetti, Alias, Unifor, Herm\u00e8s and Alessi.<\/p>\n<p>While he was Director of Design for Olivetti he developed experimental projects for Compaq Computers, Philips, Siemens and Vitra. During this period, he developed a number of theories on the evolution of workplaces.<\/p>\n<p>He has designed and restored buildings in <span class=\"xn-location\">Japan<\/span>, <span class=\"xn-location\">Germany<\/span>, in <span class=\"xn-location\">Switzerland<\/span>, and Italy.\u00a0 While working on these buildings, he collaborated on the development of corporate image, introducing technical and aesthetic innovation into the workplace.\u00a0 His professional work has always run in tandem with a personal exploration of design, technology and craftsmanship.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He has also been involved with numerous art and design exhibitions, creating building plans for museums including the Palazzo delle Esposizioni in <span class=\"xn-location\">Rome<\/span> and Neues Museum in Berlin.\u00a0 His works are also displayed and exhibited at various design museums across <span class=\"xn-location\">Europe<\/span>, <span class=\"xn-location\">United States<\/span> and <span class=\"xn-location\">Japan<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>In 2000 he was appointed Officer of Italian Republic by President Ciampi, for services to design and architecture. In 2001 he was nominated Professor at the Design and Art Faculty, University of <span class=\"xn-location\">Venice<\/span>. In 2006 he received an Honorary Doctorate from <span class=\"xn-location\">Kingston<\/span> University, for his contribution to &#8220;living quality&#8221;. and served in the Italian Army as a Lieutenant.\u00a0 Ambassador <span class=\"xn-person\">Dante Brandi<\/span> was appointed Ambassador of <span class=\"xn-location\">Italy<\/span> to <span class=\"xn-location\">Singapore<\/span> from <span class=\"xn-chron\">1 September 2023<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>He was at the Press Service of the Farnesina (September 2021).\u00a0 Prior to this, he was Head of the Communication Coordination Unit of the newly established Directorate General for Public and Cultural Diplomacy (1 January 2022).\u00a0 Dante was in charge of the institutional communication of the Ministry and its diplomatic network, public diplomacy strategies, external communication and use of social media, as well as disinformation and strategic communication.<\/p>\n<p>Appointed Consul General of <span class=\"xn-location\">Italy<\/span> in <span class=\"xn-location\">Ho Chi Minh City<\/span> (<span class=\"xn-location\">Vietnam<\/span>) in <span class=\"xn-chron\">March 2018<\/span>, he developed the Italian presence in the most dynamic part of the country and assisted the Italian community during the COVID emergency.\u00a0 He held the position of head of the economic-commercial office of the Italian Embassy in <span class=\"xn-location\">London<\/span> and Deputy Executive Director for <span class=\"xn-location\">Italy<\/span> at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development between 2013 and 2018, during the years of Italian economic expansion in the <span class=\"xn-location\">United Kingdom<\/span>, but also of the economic and financial consequences of Brexit and of the repositioning of the EBRD following the sanctioning interruption of operations in <span class=\"xn-location\">Russia<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>From <span class=\"xn-chron\">August 2012<\/span> to <span class=\"xn-chron\">August 2013<\/span>, at the Directorate General for Political and Security Affairs, he directed the office in charge for the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in <span class=\"xn-location\">Europe<\/span> (OSCE), where he coordinated \u2013 among other things \u2013 the re-election campaign of the Italian candidate for the position of Secretary General of the Organisation.<\/p>\n<p>Adviser for international activities at The Italian Export Credit Agency (SACE) between 2010 and 2012, he supported the agency on critical issues on export credit, project financing and sovereign credit recovery operations in various markets, during the financial crisis.<\/p>\n<p>From <span class=\"xn-chron\">January 2007<\/span> to <span class=\"xn-chron\">July 2010<\/span>, he served as Chief of Staff at the Italian Embassy in <span class=\"xn-location\">Washington DC<\/span>, while he carried out his first assignment abroad at the Italian Embassy in <span class=\"xn-location\">Sofia<\/span> from 2002 to 2007, during the years of <span class=\"xn-location\">Bulgaria&#8217;s<\/span> accession to NATO and the European Union.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"xn-person\">Dante Brandi<\/span> joined the Italian foreign service in <span class=\"xn-chron\">December 2000<\/span> and held his first positions at the Directorate General for Development Cooperation and the Directorate General for Sub-Saharan African Countries of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.\u00a0 He was awarded the Knight of the Order of Merit of the Republic of <span class=\"xn-location\">Italy<\/span>. De Lucchi has designed lamps and furniture for well-known Italian and European companies, such as Artemide, Olivetti, Alias, Unifor, Herm\u00e8s and Alessi.<\/p>\n<p>While he was Director of Design for Olivetti he developed experimental projects for Compaq Computers, Philips, Siemens and Vitra. and served in the Italian Army as a Lieutenant.\u00a0 Ambassador <span class=\"xn-person\">Dante Brandi<\/span> was appointed Ambassador of <span class=\"xn-location\">Italy<\/span> to <span class=\"xn-location\">Singapore<\/span> from <span class=\"xn-chron\">1 September 2023<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>He was at the Press Service of the Farnesina (September 2021).\u00a0 Prior to this, he was Head of the Communication Coordination Unit of the newly established Directorate General for Public and Cultural Diplomacy (1 January 2022).\u00a0 Dante was in charge of the institutional communication of the Ministry and its diplomatic network, public diplomacy strategies, external communication and use of social media, as well as disinformation and strategic communication.<\/p>\n<p>Appointed Consul General of <span class=\"xn-location\">Italy<\/span> in <span class=\"xn-location\">Ho Chi Minh City<\/span> (<span class=\"xn-location\">Vietnam<\/span>) in <span class=\"xn-chron\">March 2018<\/span>, he developed the Italian presence in the most dynamic part of the country and assisted the Italian community during the COVID emergency.\u00a0 He held the position of head of the economic-commercial office of the Italian Embassy in <span class=\"xn-location\">London<\/span> and Deputy Executive Director for <span class=\"xn-location\">Italy<\/span> at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development between 2013 and 2018, during the years of Italian economic expansion in the <span class=\"xn-location\">United Kingdom<\/span>, but also of the economic and financial consequences of Brexit and of the repositioning of the EBRD following the sanctioning interruption of operations in <span class=\"xn-location\">Russia<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>From <span class=\"xn-chron\">August 2012<\/span> to <span class=\"xn-chron\">August 2013<\/span>, at the Directorate General for Political and Security Affairs, he directed the office in charge for the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in <span class=\"xn-location\">Europe<\/span> (OSCE), where he coordinated \u2013 among other things \u2013 the re-election campaign of the Italian candidate for the position of Secretary General of the Organisation.<\/p>\n<p>Adviser for international activities at The Italian Export Credit Agency (SACE) between 2010 and 2012, he supported the agency on critical issues on export credit, project financing and sovereign credit recovery operations in various markets, during the financial crisis.<\/p>\n<p>From <span class=\"xn-chron\">January 2007<\/span> to <span class=\"xn-chron\">July 2010<\/span>, he served as Chief of Staff at the Italian Embassy in <span class=\"xn-location\">Washington DC<\/span>, while he carried out his first assignment abroad at the Italian Embassy in <span class=\"xn-location\">Sofia<\/span> from 2002 to 2007, during the years of <span class=\"xn-location\">Bulgaria&#8217;s<\/span> accession to NATO and the European Union.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"xn-person\">Dante Brandi<\/span> joined the Italian foreign service in <span class=\"xn-chron\">December 2000<\/span> and held his first positions at the Directorate General for Development Cooperation and the Directorate General for Sub-Saharan African Countries of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.\u00a0 He was awarded the Knight of the Order of Merit of the Republic of <span class=\"xn-location\">Italy<\/span>.
