The\u00a0Cooperatives and Mutuals Leadership Circle (CM50)<\/a><\/u><\/b> is an initiative of the International Cooperative Alliance (ICA)<\/a><\/u><\/b> bringing together leaders of some of the world’s largest cooperative and mutual enterprises, including Jayen Mehta<\/span> (Managing Director, Amul, India<\/span>), Shirine Khoury Haq<\/span> (CEO, Co-op Group, UK), Howard Brodsky<\/span> (Co-founder and Chairman, CCA Global Partners, USA<\/span>), Fab\u00edola da Silva Nader Motta<\/span> (General Manager, OCB, Brazil<\/span>)<\/b> and Rob Wesseling<\/span> (President and CEO, The Cooperators, Canada<\/span>)<\/b>.<\/p>\n

The launch came as the Doha Summit recognised the cooperative business model as a tool to advance sustainable development, social inclusion<\/b> and economic resilience<\/b>.<\/p>\n

The Doha Political Declaration<\/a><\/u>\u00a0highlights the role of cooperatives as leaders of the social and solidarity economy, through encouraging entrepreneurship<\/b>, creating decent work<\/b>, and driving social inclusion<\/b>.<\/p>\n

During the event, the ICA<\/b> and the Committee for the Promotion and Advancement of Cooperatives<\/b> (COPAC<\/a><\/u>) co-hosted a Solutions Session<\/b> attended by Heads of State, UN representatives, cooperative and mutual leaders, and international partners.<\/p>\n

The session included the closing ceremony of the United Nations 2025 International Year of Cooperatives<\/b> (IYC2025<\/a><\/u>), celebrating cooperatives’ achievements and contributions to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, and the launch of the ICA’s 2026-2030 Strategy<\/a><\/u>.<\/p>\n

Ariel Guarco<\/span>, President of the ICA, said:

It shows the world’s top 300 cooperatives have a combined turnover of US$2.8 trillion<\/span><\/b>, equivalent to the world’s eighth-largest economy<\/b>. It also includes interviews with cooperative leaders demonstrating how democratic, people-centred businesses thrive in modern markets.<\/p>\n
