Organised by the <span class=\"xn-org\">Singapore Management University<\/span> Institute of Innovation and Entrepreneurship (SMU IIE) from 29 September to <span class=\"xn-chron\">02 October 2025<\/span>, LKYGBPC is one of <span class=\"xn-location\">Asia&#8217;s<\/span> largest university-led deep-tech startup competitions, with this edition setting new records for global participation.<\/p>\n<p><b>ChemT Biotechnology, whose founders graduated from the <span class=\"xn-org\">National University of Singapore<\/span> and <span class=\"xn-org\">Harvard University<\/span>, <\/b>emerged winner of the Chancellor&#8217;s Cup for Beta Innovation. <span class=\"xn-location\">China<\/span>-based <b>Zhejiang Polar Code Technology, whose founders graduated from <span class=\"xn-location\">Tianjin<\/span> University and <span class=\"xn-org\">Toledo University<\/span>,<\/b>\u00a0clinched the Chancellor&#8217;s Cup for Infinity Impact.<\/p>\n<p>The competition has two categories: &#8216;Beta&#8217; for pre-revenue startups and &#8216;Infinity&#8217; for revenue-generating early-stage startups up to Series A. ChemT Biotechnology&#8217;s achievement marks the first time in the 23-year history of the competition that a Singapore-US startup has clinched the top prize of either category.<\/p>\n<p>Ms. <span class=\"xn-person\">Shirley Wong<\/span>, Chief Judge and Chairperson of the 12th LKYGBPC Advisory Committee,\u00a0remarked,\u00a0&#8220;This reflects a level of trust in the biennial competition for startups to showcase their work, gain visibility, raise funds and receive expert feedback on their innovative and entrepreneurial models. The LKYGBPC is more than a competition\u2014it&#8217;s a vibrant celebration of bold ideas and fearless founders shaping a better future. This year&#8217;s unprecedented participation and exceptional innovation, from climate tech to sustainable materials, reflect the grit and vision of young entrepreneurs tackling humanity&#8217;s most pressing challenges.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Both winning startups beat a tremendously competitive field of 60 global finalists \u2013 the winner of the Chancellor&#8217;s Cup for Beta Innovation was awarded <span class=\"xn-money\">S$237,500<\/span> worth of prize value and the winner of the Chancellor&#8217;s Cup for Infinity Impact secured <span class=\"xn-money\">S$287,500<\/span>. Developed by Dr. <span class=\"xn-person\">Sze Tiam Lin<\/span>, Senior Licensing Advisor at SMU IIE, this AI-driven platform reflects global trends in venture capital, streamlining data collection and enabling data-driven investment decisions while empowering human judgment.<\/p>\n<p><b>Universities as a Crucible of Innovation<\/b><\/p>\n<p>In his closing address for the 12<sup>th <\/sup>LKGBPC, Mr. Heng <span class=\"xn-person\">Swee Keat<\/span>, Chairman of the National Research Foundation (NRF), emphasised that the 12th LKYGBPC honours the legacy of Mr. Lee Kuan Yew, whose visionary spirit continues to inspire and fuel innovation.
