CHENGDU, China<\/span><\/span>, Oct. 3, 2025<\/span><\/span> \/PRNewswire\/ — The 2025 Chengdu Open Rowing Regatta was held from Oct 1 to 2<\/span> in\u00a0Xinjin district of Chengdu<\/span>, Sichuan<\/span> province, drawing 20 rowing teams from domestic and foreign universities, along with seven rowing teams from cities in the Chengdu<\/span>–Chongqing<\/span> region.<\/p>\n

The event, staged in the Xinjin section of the Nanhe River, consisted of three races: the men’s eight with coxswain 800-meter straight-course race, the men’s quadruple sculls 800-meter straight-course race, and the women’s quadruple sculls 800-meter straight-course race.<\/p>\n

The men’s eight with coxswain race attracted 14 rowing teams from international universities, including University of Cambridge<\/span> and University of Oxford<\/span> in the United Kingdom<\/span>, Brown University<\/span> in the United States<\/span>, University of Sydney<\/span> and University of Melbourne<\/span> in Australia<\/span>, and domestic universities including Peking University and Tsinghua University.<\/p>\n

Overseas teams from Harvard University<\/span> and Princeton University<\/span> in the US, as well as six teams from domestic universities, including Xi’an Jiaotong University and Chengdu Sport University, competed in the women’s quadruple sculls\u00a0race.<\/p>\n

Seven rowing teams from cities in the Chengdu<\/span>–Chongqing<\/span> region, including Chengdu<\/span>, Chongqing<\/span>, Suining and Meishan, competed in the men’s quadruple sculls\u00a0race.<\/p>\n

The rowing team from Brown University<\/span> secured the championship in the men’s eight with coxswain race, while University of Sydney<\/span> and University of Otago in New Zealand<\/span> won second and third place, respectively.<\/p>\n

Henry Hollingsworth<\/span>, a member of Brown University’s<\/span> rowing team,\u00a0said he was delighted that his team won first place in such a high-level international event, noting that the Nanhe River was incredibly beautiful and competing there was a fantastic experience.<\/p>\n

He added that the spectators on the banks were extremely passionate, and their cheers had given his team extra\u00a0motivation.<\/p>\n

Princeton University<\/span> claimed first place in the women’s quadruple sculls race, followed by Harvard University<\/span> and Chengdu Sport University.<\/p>\n

The rowing team from Deyang, Sichuan<\/span> won the men’s quadruple sculls\u00a0race, while the teams from Jianyang and Meishan in Sichuan<\/span> finished second and third, respectively.<\/p>\n

The organizers said they will continue to upgrade the event and invite more\u00a0top-tier\u00a0teams from both China<\/span> and abroad.
