BANGKOK<\/span><\/span>, Sept. 29, 2025<\/span><\/span> \/PRNewswire\/ — Chula ARi<\/span>,<\/a><\/i>\u00a0an interdisciplinary initiative by Chulalongkorn University<\/span><\/a>, addresses the challenges of Thailand’s<\/span> rapidly aging society by using research to develop comprehensive elderly care models across economic, social, health, environmental, and innovation dimensions. The project also encourages pre-senior citizens to prepare for future aging challenges.<\/i><\/p>\n

Chula ARi Pilots Model Communities to Address Thailand\u2019s Aging Boom<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Thailand<\/span> is approaching a “senior tsunami,” with the population aged 60 and above expected to rise from 20% to 30% within the next decade, transforming the nation into a super-aged society. Professor Dr. Vipan Prachuabmoh<\/span>, project director<\/b>, explains that the large population born between 1963\u20131983 will contribute nearly one million new elderly annually. Longer life expectancies, combined with chronic diseases and dependence, pose societal and welfare challenges.<\/p>\n

Launched in 2018 with C2F funding, Chula ARi<\/span><\/a> aims to enhance the elderly’s quality of life and prepare society for aging. Thailand<\/span> faces unique pressures due to low birth rates and limited elderly support infrastructure compared to nations like Japan<\/span> and Korea. The project emphasizes collaboration, community engagement, and actionable research across multiple disciplines, including medicine, engineering, architecture, and social sciences.<\/p>\n

Chula ARi<\/span><\/a>\u00a0operates on three levels: conducting policy-driven research, raising public awareness, and piloting community-focused elderly support initiatives. The project has developed master plans for national and Bangkok<\/span>-specific elderly action strategies. Between 2018\u20132022, ten urban communities in Bangkok<\/span> were piloted, implementing health programs, home adaptations, green spaces, and learning centers. Surplus vegetable gardens generated income, and communal facilities fostered intergenerational interaction.<\/p>\n
