This also reflects investors&#8217; confidence in <span class=\"xn-location\">Thailand&#8217;s<\/span> long-term economic potential despite the current global uncertainties.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Domestic and foreign investors filed a total of 822 project applications during the January-March period, a 20% increase from the first quarter of 2024. As many as 618 of those applications involved foreign investors.<\/p>\n<p>Applications in the infrastructure sector included Bangkok Expressway and Metro PCL&#8217;s <span class=\"xn-money\">109.2 billion baht<\/span> investment in the construction of the 35.9 kilometer-long Orange Line which will connect <span class=\"xn-location\">Bangkok&#8217;s<\/span> western and eastern suburbs, that will greatly facilitate travel in the city.<\/p>\n<p>The digital sector saw the value of applications soar over five times to <span class=\"xn-money\">94.75 billion baht<\/span>, from <span class=\"xn-money\">17.42 billion baht<\/span> a year earlier, boosted by a combined investment value of <span class=\"xn-money\">94.23 billion baht<\/span> in five data center projects.<\/p>\n<p>In other target industries, a total of 122 applications were filed for investments in the electrical and electronic (E&amp;E) sector representing a combined value of <span class=\"xn-money\">87.81 billion baht<\/span>, while the automotive and parts sector saw 72 projects worth a combined <span class=\"xn-money\">23.5 billion baht<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>The petrochemicals and chemicals sector saw 81 applications worth <span class=\"xn-money\">13.94 billion baht<\/span>, the agriculture and food processing sector saw 61 projects worth a combined <span class=\"xn-money\">12.72 billion baht<\/span>, and the tourism infrastructure sector saw 10 projects worth a combined <span class=\"xn-money\">9.26 billion baht<\/span>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><b>Hong Kong Tops FDI Source Ranking<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Foreign direct investment (FDI) applications in the January-March period amounted to a combined investment value of <span class=\"xn-money\">267.7 billion baht<\/span>, an increase of 62% from a year earlier.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"xn-location\">Hong Kong<\/span>-based companies came on top of the ranking of FDI sources for the quarter with a combined investment value of <span class=\"xn-money\">135.16 billion baht<\/span>, accounting for 50% of all FDI pledges in the period, including <span class=\"xn-money\">72.7 billion baht<\/span> in the digital sector alone.<\/p>\n<p><span>Mainland <span class=\"xn-location\">China<\/span><\/span> came in second with 47.3 billion\u00a0baht, mostly invested in the metal, electronics and automotive industries, followed by <span class=\"xn-location\">Singapore<\/span> with <span class=\"xn-money\">38.1 billion baht<\/span>, focused on projects in the E&amp;E and digital sectors.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"xn-location\">Japan<\/span> ranked fourth with <span class=\"xn-money\">25.1 billion baht<\/span>, mostly investments in the E&amp;E and automotive sectors, followed in fifth position by investments from <span class=\"xn-location\">Taiwan<\/span>-based companies with <span class=\"xn-money\">4.76 billion baht<\/span>, mostly in the E&amp;E and automotive parts sectors.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, <span class=\"xn-location\">Thailand&#8217;s<\/span> total applications for investment promotion soared 35% in value to a 10-year high of <span class=\"xn-money\">1.14 trillion baht<\/span>.
