The World Internet Conference (WIC) held a press briefing in Beijing\u00a0on March 17\u00a0to introduce the upcoming WIC Asia-Pacific Summit, which\u00a0will\u00a0take place in Hong Kong<\/span> from April 14 to 15<\/span>. The event will focus on artificial intelligence (AI) under the theme “Integration of AI and Digital Technologies Shaping the Future \u2013 Jointly Building a Community with a Shared Future in Cyberspace.”<\/p>\n

Ren Xianliang, secretary-general of the WIC, and Sun Dong<\/span>, secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry of\u00a0the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government, attended the event and took questions from the media. The press conference was chaired by Liang Hao<\/span>, executive deputy secretary-general of the WIC.<\/p>\n

The WIC Asia-Pacific Summit is hosted by the WIC, organized\u00a0by the HKSAR Government, and co-organized by the Hong Kong Innovation, Technology and Industry Bureau.<\/p>\n

The summit will feature an opening ceremony, the main forum, and sub-forums\u00a0on key topics,\u00a0including large AI models, digital finance, digital government and smart life,\u00a0providing a platform for collaboration and exchanges to drive digital and intelligent transformation across the Asia-Pacific<\/span> region.<\/p>\n

Ren highlighted Hong Kong’s<\/span> role as a global financial, trade, and technology hub, making it an ideal location for the summit.<\/p>\n

Sun noted Hong Kong’s<\/span> efforts in technological innovation, including the AI Supercomputing Centre launched in late 2024 and the upcoming Hong Kong AI Research and Development Institute, which will further boost AI research and commercialization.<\/p>\n

The summit will bring together high-level representatives from international organizations, governments, enterprises, and academia. Confirmed attendees include representatives from GSMA, the IPv6 Forum, the British Standards Institution, the JSC Development Fund of Georgia<\/span>, the Great Silk Way\u00a0International Youth Union, and the Pakistan Information Security Association.
