The port, a cooperative project between Peru<\/span> and China<\/span> under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), will reduce sea shipping time from Peru<\/span> to China<\/span> to 23 days, cutting logistics costs by at least 20 percent. It is expected to generate $4.5 billion<\/span> in annual revenue for Peru<\/span> and create over 8,000 direct jobs. The port, capable of accommodating ultra-large container ships with a capacity of 18,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), has a designed annual throughput capacity of 1 million TEUs in the near term and 1.5 million TEUs in the long term, positioning it as a key hub for trade between Latin America<\/span> and Asia<\/span>.<\/p>\n

Prime Minister of Peru Gustavo Adrianzen<\/span> said that cooperation between China<\/span> and Peru<\/span>, including the Chancay Port project and other fields, will bring more job opportunities and economic growth to Peru<\/span>, improving people’s living standards.<\/p>\n

Jose Tam<\/span>, president of the Chinese-Peruvian Chamber of Commerce, talked about the significance of Peru’s<\/span> Chancay megaport with CGTN, saying the port will be an “engine” for the local economy.<\/p>\n

Juan Carlos Capunay<\/span>, former executive director of the APEC Secretariat and former Peruvian ambassador to China<\/span>, also stated that the port will play an important role in deepening bilateral relations and fostering practical cooperation between China<\/span> and Peru<\/span>.<\/p>\n
